Girls and Their Dolls

Why do little girls play with dolls, while boys prefer plastic guns? As you might expect, gender stereotypes play a big role. Girls are expected to enjoy collecting, dressing, and caring for their dolls. And more often than not, the stereotype holds true. Most girls prefer toy dolls to toy guns.

Why is this? Well, that's simple — all children imitate their parents at one time or another when they are young. Of course, when they grow into teens the process often reverses itself as kids embrace and assert their individuality. But when they are young they tend to mimic their parents. Girls mimic their mothers and boys imitate their fathers.

Perhaps that is why little girls with younger siblings are far more likely to have large doll collections. After all, they have seen their mothers caring for their younger brothers and sisters and they want to do the same. But because they are not old enough to care for a real child, they have to make due with a toy doll or Games for girls who love fashion

Many of these girls will continue to play with dolls even after their younger siblings grow up. But as they get older, so do their dolls. Little girls over the age of seven often like to play with adult or teenage dolls. Why is this?

It is at about that age that most children realise they are growing up and they look forward to it. This often means developing an early interest in teenage and even adult fashions, which is why most dolls that are designed for older girls come with accessories and several outfits.
