Toys to Help Kids to Learn English

All toys are educational, to a certain extent, as most teach specific skills, and all of them teach kids how to play. However there are toys that go further still and help children to learn languages. The past decade has seen a great increase in the number of bilingual interactive electronic toys, for example.

These can teach children the alphabet, numbers, shapes and colours from as early as 12 months old. They use sound effects, nursery rhymes and flashing lights to maintain children's interest levels as they learn. The toys can be colourful, interactive playhouses, gardens or farmyards which focus on specific groups of words. These toys are not just useful for kids learning English but can be extremely helpful to hesitant parents also wishing to improve their bilingual skills.

There are clocks to teach the time, with a built-in quiz facility to reinforce and test learning, which are suitable for slightly older children; talking cubes to teach numbers, letters, shapes and colours, as well as improving the younger child's motor skills and helping him develop confidence from an early age; and smart drivers for toddlers. These simulate adult cars, with an interactive steering wheel and dashboard incorporating all the accessories, noises and buttons of a real vehicle. With a little imagination, these can be used in an endless number of ways to teach and reinforce vocabulary and grammar. (more...)

Children Love Toys, Fact!

If you see a commercial for a toy on television and you want to buy it for your kids, where will you get it from? Traditionally parents would have to go to the toy store and fight other parents to the front of the line. This was both troublesome and even dangerous in some cases when the newest toys came out. If your kids had the best toys than there was a certain social status placed upon you.

Thankfully the internet has completely changed the way in which we shop. Instead of getting up at 6am we can now shop in the comfort of our home. All we need is a computer and in most cases a credit card to secure the purchase.

Getting toys online is both cheap and easy when you compare it to the hassle and prices of toys in major retail stores. (more...)

A History of Toys

Toys have been popular for thousands of years. Early man even made toys out of rock and wood for their children. We know this because we have found them in archaeological digs and through cave drawings. Toys are much different today than they were thousands of years ago, but they still serve the same purpose, to entertain us.

Toys come in many different shapes and sizes and they do not resemble shutters for nurseries They can be large and electronic or small and handheld. Some toys cost thousands of pounds and others you can buy for less than one pound.

It all depends on how much you are willing to spend and who the gift is intended for. Most adults will normally spend more money on toys if they are intended for their own children as opposed to nieces or nephews. (more...)

Nostalgia

OK, so I am only just the wrong side of forty, but when I think back on my childhood toys, I cannot help but remember that things were much simpler then. We simply did not have the array of toys and gadgets that today's youngsters have at their disposal. Kids nowadays, whether it is pre school Leicester or a creche in Brighton, have the selection of toys that we could only dream of. We had Barbies, Tiny Tears and cuddly toys, maybe a few board games such as Buckaroo and Operation. And we were very happy with them, we did not need anything else.

Kids now seem to need a much larger choice and it is no longer the case that an inexpensive toy meant as much as anything. Now it has to be the latest technology and the right brand – even for a five year old!

As adorable as they are, kids now do not seem to possess that same imagination as we had to develop – simply because we had no choice. If we wanted something and did not have it we had to make do and pretend. (more...)

The Toy Market in the UK

Did you know that children have been playing with toys for thousands of years? It's true! An early version of draughts was discovered in what was once Babylonia. It was over six thousand years old! A thousand years later a game that resembles modern backgammon was played by the ancient Sumerians.

Yes, most of the ancient toys were really games. It wasn't until about 1000 BC that items that were specifically designed for children came on the scene. The kite from China and the stone yo-yo from Greece are probably the first devices that were made to entertain kids. They were the very first toys.

Today, the toy market in the UK is worth an estimated 3 billion pounds per annum. There is even an annual award for the year's top toy, perhaps this games site will have more of an answer. An organization called the Toy Retailers Association represents sellers throughout the UK. (more...)

Girls and Their Dolls

Why do little girls play with dolls, while boys prefer plastic guns? As you might expect, gender stereotypes play a big role. Girls are expected to enjoy collecting, dressing, and caring for their dolls. And more often than not, the stereotype holds true. Most girls prefer toy dolls to toy guns.

Why is this? Well, that's simple — all children imitate their parents at one time or another when they are young. Of course, when they grow into teens the process often reverses itself as kids embrace and assert their individuality. But when they are young they tend to mimic their parents. Girls mimic their mothers and boys imitate their fathers.

Perhaps that is why little girls with younger siblings are far more likely to have large doll collections. After all, they have seen their mothers caring for their younger brothers and sisters and they want to do the same. But because they are not old enough to care for a real child, they have to make due with a toy doll or Games for girls who love fashion (more...)

Responsible Education and Toys

Children and discipline is a double edge sword. If you try to instill values in a child and educate them through punishment, they learn through negative feedback and a huge expense to their self confidence. If you reward in the wrong way, you educate them to behave only for incentive which has a negative effect as well. There is a balance, however.

Educators have learned that child behavior is best formed through structure and building a sense of accomplishment. Reward is acceptable if tied to accomplishing a series of tasks. the type of reward is very important, however.

Through the use of a formal reward chart , parents and educators can created a structured week for their child that clearly defines expectations for behavior as well as activities. The system allows for the ups and downs in a child's week as the end goal is accumulating enough stars to achieve their goal. If a goal is achieved, the reward should not be a material good. Rather, it should be a privilege or an extension of a privilege they enjoy. This could include a play date with a favorite friend, extra play time with a toy they enjoy, or a special activity with a parent or relative. (more...)

Shopping for Toys

If you have been charged with the task of buying toys as a gift for a friend's young child or a new family member, and you have very little experience in this field you may be feeling a little anxious about what to buy.

While to the untrained eye there may appear to be little difference between a baby ornament and toys designed for much older children, you can rest assured that if you buy the former for a five or six year old, you will not be popular with the gift's recipient. In order to make sure that your purchase is appropriate, you will need to do a little investigation.

To begin with, you will want to chat to the child's parents and ask them for ideas. If this is not an option, ascertain exactly how old the child is and talk to other acquaintances of yours with children of their own; a little experienced advice will not go amiss when it comes to buying toys. DIY Toys for Kids

If you find yourself in charge of a group of young children while their parents are out, you will almost certainly be looking for useful ways to keep them entertained. Unless you undertake to make a few preparations, you may find that your wards become bored very quickly; the best way to ensure that the children stay active and occupied is to plan one or two possibilities before they arrive.

Focus your attention on putting together a few activities suitable to the age group with which you are dealing. You might want to consider assembling some arts and crafts, for example; children are invariably more interested in exercises that promise to yield a concrete result at the end.

Collect a variety of tinsel, yogurt pots and glittery paint and help the children to get on with making their own kids Christmas ornaments and heirlooms. Alternatively, organize fabric scraps, stuffing, buttons and felt and get them on track with the business of creating their own toys. (more...)

For Real Life Barbie Dolls

This feels too good to be true, even writing something on Barbie brings back my own childhood memories where my lady like sister used to play with Barbie and I with cars! I just cannot help making fun of the slim and sexy little toy my baby sister would so fondly dress up and take to her friends' doll parties. She would brush her hair, iron her clothes, fetch her bag, even shop for her ridiculously small things! Now, being a father of one, I can imagine how precious Barbie is to my little doll. Just recently I saw my own daughter watching barbie princess charm school on the television and I was fascinated by the firm grip the doll character has kept throughout our generations. My daughter had a similar twinkle in her eyes which compelled me to watch my sister's childhood passion; Barbie.

Simple rule of thumb, from a guy’s perspective, is that a girl adore Barbie as she makes Barbie her role model. Girls want to be like Barbie, smart, loving, sensitive, hot and center of attention! However, after watching Barbie Princess Charm School, I realized that there is more to the character than I gave credit to. Barbie, Blair Willows is not only a charmer but she is also a hard working and caring sister and daughter, who has joined Princess Charm School to support her family. Barbie is an honest and caring friend, who with the help of her roommates, Hadley and Isla, tries to save her school mates from the evil Dame Devin.

Barbie, at her core, is friendly, sensitive, composed, loving, caring and surprisingly common like any other girl. What makes her sparkle is her WILL to change for the better, her attitude towards life and how to make the best of it by changing and polishing her poise and etiquette. (more...)

A Gift For a Child Who Is Obese

Parents tend to give their children video games for Christmas, which will cause them to stay in the house. They will just sit down on the couch, play video games, and eat. This type of gift is not good for an obese child. The child needs to have a gift that allows him or her to move their bodies. It has to be a gift that allows the child to be outside.

Rollerblades are a good gift to give to an obese child for Christmas or any special day. It will allow the child to get outside to get some fresh air and to get there body moving.

Learning how to rollerblade can be difficult because the wheels are so thin. The obese child may want to give up and go in the house since the child is not skating the way he or she wants to. As a parent, you may have to get involved and learn with them. Buy yourself a pair of rollerblades as well to make it a family thing. Children tend to mimic what they see there parents do. (more...)

The perfect way for girls to experiment with beauty is make-over parties. At make-over parties girls can experiment with make-up, hairstyles, spa treatments, and nail polish. Some of the things that will be needed at makeover parties for girls are: skin care products, hair styling products, make-up, nail policy, and clean washcloths.

As the host of a make-over party, you should start by buying or making invitation cards. You should try to make your invitation cards are enticing as possible. Purchase blank plain or solid colored cards which can be decorated. You can use lipstick to make kisses on your invitation card or you can use fancy letters or stickers - anything that will help to make your make-over party appealing. A digital camera is a must-have at a make-over party. You will want to take before and after pictures.
